Sheep and Lambs Navarro's Babydoll Lamb Cam

Lambing season started late at Navarro Vineyards this year. Our first Babydolls weren't born until the last week in January. Navarro uses these short- legged sheep to help mow the cover crop in our vineyard, thereby reducing our dependence on fossil fuels. Their short stature prevents them from munching the leaves and grapes on the vines. We are delighted with each lamb's birth, as we expand our flock of this relatively rare breed. Many ewes give birth to twins and we occasionally even are rewarded with triplets.

We have two Babydoll Lamb Cams set up in our barn so that you can join in our excitement during the births that will occur in the next couple of weeks. Camera one is set up in the area with the ewes and their newborns. We keep them inside the barn and together to be sure that the lamb and Mom have bonded and that the lambs are nursing. If the weather is fine and the lambs and ewe are doing well, they will be let out in the pasture adjacent to Navarro's tasting room. Camera two is set up in the "waiting room." These ewes will all have their lambs over the next three weeks and once they go into labor they are usually moved to an individual stall.

We hope you enjoy this virtual visit to our barnyard. If you are in the neighborhood stop by to see the new lambs in person and enjoy a taste of Navarro wine.
