|4th Annual Spring Bird Walk
Saturday, April 19th at 9:30 AM
At Navarro Vineyards
This will be the 4th annual spring bird walk in the vineyards of Navarro hosted by Dan Airola.
Our day will start at 9:30 at the Navarro tasting room parking lot. The tour is appropriate for all ages, but be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a jacket and hat. From 11:00 until 1:00 there will be a guided wine and cheese tasting of Navarro's wines, paired with some yummy Pennyroyal cheeses, along with some special cheese appetizers. (If you or your family prefer a more substantial lunch, do bring along a picnic or check out the deli selection in Navarro's tasting room.) At 1:00 come help us plant seven young coastal redwood trees, adjacent to the tasting room, so that our children, and our children's children, can picnic under their majestic shade in the future. Come for part of the day's events, or all three sections, but please let us know with an email or a phone call so that we have plenty of food and wine to go around!
In the past we have identified over 90 bird species. We usually see 30-40 species on this trip, including a nice mix of wintering birds (waterfowl, hawks), recently arriving migrants (swallows, warblers), and resident species (hummingbirds, woodpeckers, sparrows). We also observe vineyard management practices that are beneficial for creating bird habitat. Two years ago we had over 20 Western Bluebirds hatch in the three new houses we placed along the sheep pastures and should have 5 new houses up to examine for new use during the trip. Recently an immature bald eagle was foraging around our lower pond.
We will start at 9:30 a.m. at the Navarro tasting room parking lot. Please R.S.V.P. at 707-895-3686 or firstname.lastname@example.org
