We only have two problems with Navarro Edelzwicker: some of our customers forget how to pronounce it and we never have enough. We've been making this blend of Alsatian varieties for three decades and have stuck with the traditional German name the whole time even though we occasionally get requests for Edelweiss. As in Alsace, this wine is a blend of Gewürztraminer, Riesling and Pinot Gris and we think its heady aromatics and floral nuances make it a perfect way to celebrate the holidays. Navarro has specialized in long, cool fermentations to produce aromatic white wines since before Sarah's birth. Even though the name is fancy the price tag on the Edelzwicker is so modest that you can hardly afford not to yodel or burst into song. Try it for Sunday supper with a traditional German farmer's omelet called Hoppel Poppel, which is almost as fun to say as Edelzwicker. Gold Medal winner. Best of Class.
Sarah celebrated receiving a graduate degree in winemaking by working the harvest in New Zealand during our spring and their fall. Most of the other interns working with her at Seifried Winery in Nelson came from families with wineries in Germany. Her new pals have no trouble pronouncing Edelzwicker even though they appear to like beer as much as wine.
