Demand for wine is down and there are excess grapes. Vineyards are being abandoned or pulled out but there remains a glut of wine that will take years to ameliorate. International costs are skyrocketing: our barrels are from France, bottles from Mexico, label paper from Canada, corks from Portugal and foils from Italy. Keeping Navarro's loyal customers happy with medal-winning wines at reasonable prices is increasingly challenging. We are delighted with this Chardonnay which is grounded and produced entirely in Philo's Boontling Loam soils which have moderate water-holding capacity and depth which suit Chardonnay and other cool-climate varieties allowing for controlled stress which helps preserve acidity and aromatics.

Buy it by the case for only $246.00 — a savings of $78.00! That's only $20.50 per bottle.

[above] We aged most of this cuvée in seasoned 135-gallon puncheons, double the volume of a barrel. These were purchased specifically for Chardonnay and produced by Billon cooperage from tight-grained oak air dried for three years

[above] Ripping out a vineyard in the Hammer Olsen field. We removed the vines and trellis manually with a tractor after harvest in 2025. Next we ripped out the roots with this Cat to a depth of three feet. The ripping is done in both directions so that new vines, to be planted in Spring 2026, can establish deep roots quickly.

60% of the wine was cool-fermented in stainless steel to retain the grape flavors, then aged in seasoned French oak puncheons for seven months. 40% of the wine was barrel-fermented—10% new oak—with half of this portion undergoing malolactic fermentation to bring in a pleasing roundness. Cheers to that! Double Gold Medal winner. 97 Points.
