This is our sixth vintage producing Marsanne and Roussanne wines and it's been informative. These two white grape varieties are historically grown in warm regions, and they produce very different wines than our cool-climate Alsatian varieties which offer high acidity and a citrus-driven, lemon-lime-floral profile. Marsanne tends to have lower acidity with some richness and Roussanne brings a bit more acid and verve, so blends feel round but not flabby. The flavors are of ripe yellow apple and Crenshaw melon with a touch of almond or hazelnut and the
sur lie aging in French oak adds hints of Asian spices. The grapes were grown organically at Spirit Canyon Vineyard, located near the hills east of Ukiah. The Marsanne and Roussanne grapes were harvested, destemmed and pressed on the same day and the two varieties were co-fermented in a French oak oval.
We open a dozen new award-winning wines daily in our tasting room, so chances are we'll have the wine you want to taste open for sampling. If not, please ask.
Jim, Navarro's winemaker, setting up a new air compressor.
Our grape presses and several pumps operate with compressed air. In addition to oenological expertise, a winemaker at a small winery needs a wide set of skills.
