Bountiful Recent Press

The 2025 season delivered a bountiful grape harvest and plenty of ripe fruit, thanks to great weather, leaving us with a treasure trove of excellent lots for our house wines. Edelzwicker, meaning "noble blend" in German, blends the "noble" Alsatian varieties: Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris. Gewürztraminer boasts the strongest flavors of the trio, so we started by blending Pinot Gris and Riesling in varying amounts, aiming for a true "white" profile that does not taste obviously like either grape variety. The unanimous choice: 50/50 of Riesling and Pinot Gris. Then we added Gewürztraminer in varying amounts, and again the winning formula ended up as equal parts of all three.

[above] This Edelzwicker was aged in these seasoned oak ovals as is done in Alsace. Alfredo is setting up a pump to transfer wine for blending, then bottling.
Harvesting Gewürztraminer. [below] Fully ripe Gewürz berries have russet-colored skins, although the juice is a pale gold with green highlights similar to Pinot Gris and Reisling juice.

The result is a wine with a spring bouquet of apple blossom and flavors of apple, juicy Bartlett pear and tropical fruit. It's sunny, bright, and finishes crisply thanks to excellent acidity. Priced for easy sipping in the sunshine. Gold Medal winner.
