Tuscan-style rosé from Sangiovese grapes remains a rarity in the U.S., as these wines are typically crafted in small lots rather than for mass markets. With limited domestic demand, Sangiovese plantings in California are relatively scarce. Our connection with vineyard manager and fourth-generation grower Bob Gibson—of neighboring Roederer Estate and his family vineyards in Hopland, Mendocino County—led us to source Sangiovese fruit from his organically farmed vines. In 2021, we chose to vinify the grapes as a rosé rather than a red. Drawing on prior experience with Pinot Noir and Grenache, we initially applied longer skin contact; however, Sangiovese required a lighter touch. The result was enjoyable, though slightly fuller and deeper in color than intended. Armed with those insights, we refined our approach in 2022, producing a more balanced and expressive rosé that earned strong praise from both judges and customers.

in the bed of his pickup. Bob is a fourth-generation farmer so there's a good chance that he helped plant the Sangiovese vines in the background.
Our 2025 release marks the fifth vintage from Gibson's vineyard. It offers vibrant tropical, melon and citrus aromas that carry through to a lively palate, with bright acidity and a crisp, refreshing finish that invites another sip.
