We're pleased by the flattering feedback we often receive about the exceptional quality-to-price ratio of Navarro wines. During our first tasting of the season in mid-December 2025, we sampled ten 2025 Sauvignon Blanc wines that we had produced from four distinct blocks. It was fascinating to taste wines from the same block, harvested on different dates—the early picks showcased grassy, herbal notes, while the later picks delighted with tropical aromas. One vineyard block presented an interesting experiment—it was split in two, with the southern rows historically producing less desirable wine compared to the northern sections. Plus, we experimented with another lot, fermenting one portion in ovals and the other in stainless steel, then aging it in puncheons.

Three years ago, we planted Sauvignon Blanc vines in our Philo Hammer Olsen vineyard. To reduce competition with the vines, we control the weeds under the vine-row. For the first two years, we carefully hand-hoe the weeds since our babydoll sheep would munch the yet untrained vines; in the third year, and perhaps the fourth, we control the weeds by weed whacking (left). Once the vine trunks are strong enough, weed removal is performed using a tractor-driven implement (right) or sheep. Herbicides would have been cheaper and faster, but studies have shown that herbicides reduce soil fertility—just one of the reasons why our vineyards are herbicide-free.

After careful rating, we decided on seven potential wines for the upcoming blending tastings, while three will be sold as bulk wine. While these tastings are always educational and enjoyable, they also showcase the expertise behind Navarro's consistent quality—it's not just luck! This selective bottling, a cuvée selected from four lots, presents a captivating mix of tropical and grassy aromas, rich flavors and a crispness that invites another sip. Double Gold Medal winner. Best of Class. 97 Points.
